I just bought the recent Courageous Cat 4-DVD set.
It's definitely worth the price (since I bought a used copy from eBay for
just
14 bucks). However, I hate to report that the picture quality leaves much
to be
desired. I've seen some films from the 1920's with better picture quality
than
this. The colors are washed out and faded, and there are numerous lines
and
scratches throughout every episode; even occasional splices. I'd expect
this low
level picture quality from cheap public domain releases, but this is a
fully
authorized release.
Also, the individual episodes are not in consecutive order; not even
approximately; they're all mixed up. An episode called "The Case of the
Shoo
Shoo Fly" is on disc 4, while "Return of the Shoo Shoo Fly" is on disc 1.
I
would very much have preferred to be able to watch the episodes in their
proper
consecutive order, and start with the first episode. Does anyone know why
the
chronology of episodes are all scrambled up in this set?
Alright, that's enough complaining. It's good to have every episode of
this
series available. It was never on par with Rocky and Bullwinkle,
Huckleberry
Hound, or other classic made-for-TV animated series, but it was
entertaining,
and the plots often had imaginative concepts. If you can get a used copy
for a
bargain price (as I did), you'll get your money's worth, but it's not
worth the
full retail price, considering the aforementioned mediocre picture quality
and
the arbitrary order in which the episodes are arranged.
