For a long while, I've noticed in a lot of manga and anime (or both)
that some love matches (one-sided or both), or relation****ps that have
the potential of becoming love, possess a poignant overtone: one
partner's life is more mortal than the other. This means that while
one ages and dies, the other will still possess youth and life (even
though it might be a lonely grief-stricken one). Among the examples:
DB
-Vejita and Bulma
-Kuririn and Juuhichagou
-Goku and Chichi (even though Chichi's physiology may be different
from a human: Gyuu Mao appears to be very long-lived. He was probably
a schoolmate with Son Gohan under Master Ro****- making that a long
time ago- and still seems kicking as a great-grandfather to Pan. Could
Gyuu Mao's size mean he was from a different species than human? If
so, than Chichi's lifespan- if not the equal to a Saiya-jin- could be
at least greater than a regular human).
-Gohan and Videl (don't know if being a hybrid makes Gohan less
mortal; on the other hand, if one counts GT, his daughter is still
kicking at age 114!)
TENCHI MUYO (OVA)
-Tenchi and Ryoko/Ayeka/Sasami (not sure of this. We've seen that
Ryoko can age into a mummy, and Ayeka was cryogenically frozen during
the 700 year journey to find Yosho; Sasami is Tsunami. Besides,
Tenchi's Light Hawk Wings powers might extend his life).
CREST OF THE STARS/BANNER OF THE STARS
-Jinto and Laliel
OH MY GODDESS!
-Keichi and Belldandy
INU-YASHA
-Inu-Yasha and Kagome (Kikyo, considering her easy-bake earth form,
might have a longer lifespan than a human).
TRIGUN
-Vash the Stampede and Meryl Stryfe
RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
-Parn and Deedlit
EL-HAZARD (OVA)
-Makoto and Ifurita (if OVA2 gives any clue)
CARDCAPTOR SAKURA
-Li and Sakura (if Clow Reed could live a long, unaged life, wouldn't
the same rule apply to his successor-daughter Sakura?)
URESEI YATSURA
-Ataru and Lum
Yeah, I know that most of these stories are set in the present tense
of 'only a few years' span, ending with no scene of the future (DB is
rather mixed- considering the different conclusions between anime and
manga). However, I can't help thinking things in a PETER PAN view,
where mortality will affect a relation****p/friend****p in a bittersweet
way.
Any comments?
