I'm a bit out of the loop, but it sounds reasonable... with Bandai, who
knows?

They're rerunning currently, as a matter of fact. Episode 2 this past
saturday.

Interestingly, it turns out we're missing a piece... allow me to explain.
Part 1 of the series is actually a novel. .Hack//AI Busters. This
follows
the adventures of a player who encounters a strange girl, who he considers
a
possible event character. He is then unable to log out. (No, it's not
Tsukasa.)
Part 2 is .Hack//Sign, following Tsukasa and the others.
Part 3 is .Hack//Liminality and the three games for the PS2. While the
games show you what's happening in The World, the animes show you what's
happening "offline".
Part 4, obviously, is .Hack//Dusk, which finally closes out the cycle of
"The Key of the Twilight".
As for how neccessary the order is... well, it's optional, but fun. The
people who put all this together at the .Hack Project put "Easter Eggs" in
all the later sections. The mysterious message referenced in Sign is sent
in AI Busters, for example, while the Data Drain from the games is first
seen in Sign (along with other things, but I hate to spoiler). Likewise,
Orca of the Azure Sea, mentioned in Sign, appears in the games and
Liminality. (Bonus: Two dungeons from Sign appear in the games... the
church that figures so prominently appears at "Hidden, Forbidden, Holy
Ground", and the dungeon where you first see Tsukasa is found at
"Rejecting,
Oblivious, Wavemaster". Also, check out the second game for an appearance
by A-20 and Mimiru.)
Yours wi****ng he could play the games, read the novel, and thus put
together
the whole plot,
The PS2-less,
