MG "ver. One Year War" Gundam -- a different kind of decal?

by jgrybows@[EMAIL PROTECTED] May 6, 2005 at 12:30 PM

Hello,

First, an apology: I'm afraid I really haven't posted here much; I came
and went a few years ago, back when the various AC and UC Gundam
properties were showing on Cartoon Network, and haven't really been
back since. So, please forgive me if this has been covered at all
recently.

But at any rate, I have a question about the new Master Grade
1/100-scale RX-78-2 Gundam model kit (yeah, the third MG version) based
on the 3D model used in the PS2 game "One Year War." I bought it
recently, but I haven't really found out too much information about it,
outside of the information included with the kit itself, and on
Bandai's own (Japanese) websites (the kit's only been out for a month,
after all). So anyway, not being completely fluent in Japanese, I
figured that I'd at least translate the "basics" page of the manual, so
as not to screw anything up that was especially vital. But something
piqued my interest when I got to the section about the "Gundam Decals"
included for detailing.

>From information I'd come across previously about Master Grade model
kits, I was led to believe that most of the decals were of the
"waterslide" variety (i.e. you put them in water, take them out when
they get slippery, press them onto the model and let them dry there).
But I got something different when I translated the included
instructions. Just to make sure I've got the right sense about it, I'll
include (romanized) Japanese along with my translation. Then maybe
someone here can tell me if this is really something different, or if I
just screwed something up:

GANDAMU DEKAARU NO HARIKATA.
(HOW TO APPLY THE GUNDAM DECALS.)

1) Gandamu dekaaru wa, tensha suru maaku wo hogo ****ito to issho ni
maaku yori ookime ni kirida****e kudasai.
(1. Please cut out widely around the Gundam decals, with both the
transfer mark and the protective sheet [rather than just the mark
itself].)

2) Hogo ****ito wo haga****, haru ichi wo kimete kara, zurenai you ni
serohanteepu nado de kotei ****, maaku no ue kara boorupen nado no
sentan no marui mono de kosuritsukete teichaku sasemasu.
(2. Once you have removed the protective sheet and decided where to
place (the decal), affix it with cellophane tape [or something similar]
so it will not slide, and rub over the top of the mark with the rounded
tip of a ballpoint pen [or something similar] to apply.)

3) ****ito wo ****zuka ni haga****, dekaaru ga teichaku ****e inai bubun
ga nokotta baai wa ****ito wo moto ni modo****, sono bubun wo saido
kosuritsukemasu.
(After gently removing the sheet, in the event that there is a part of
the detail that was not applied, return the sheet to its original
position, and rub over that area a second time.)

So, uh... is this a different kind of decal, or am I just
hallucinating? Thanks to anyone who can help.
