Okay, I was unfamiliar with Gundam (other than it being about people
fighting in giant mechanical suits) until late last year, when I heard
about "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam" being released in a limited edition
boxed set. Apparently, this was the "holy grail" of the Gundam
franchise. I decided to order it. I bought it on December 31, but I
haven't watched it yet. I found out that I had to watch the original
"Mobile Suit Gundam" series (or at least the movie trilogy). So, I had
a friend order the movie trilogy boxed set from 2002 for me, and I
watched the first movie today.
All that I can say is "Meh, it was okay."
Here's the thing. I like strong female characters. I care more about
them than male characters. I don't really know why. I've just always
been that way. I like Supergirl and Spider-Girl. I grew up watching
"Jem". Some of my favorite anime series are "Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo
2040", "Robotech", and "Noir".
So, after watching this first Gundam movie, I'm disappointed that the
female characters seem to just follow orders and say "Aye, sir."
Before I start watching Zeta Gundam, I'd like to know if it has any
strong female characters (or at least one) that I can count on to
cheer for in every episode.
Do any of the other Gundam series have any?
What about female Gundam pilots?
