Okay, I've watched through the entire series, but my viewing was broken
up due to a 5-month stay in Illinois. I've decided to watch the series
a second time, marathoning it in English. I've watched it yesterday and
today and covered the first 30 episodes so far.
One thing that I hate about the series is Reccoa's betrayal of the AEUG
near the end. She goes to the Titans, shoots at her former crewmates in
battle, and gives the order to gas a space colony, killing millions of
people.
Her reason for doing all of this? She felt that her former crewmates
didn't understand her feelings as a woman.
Oh, yeah, and she somehow became obsessed with Paptimus, a Federation
captain whose ship she'd infiltrated in episode 28. Paptimus, a guy
that had HIT her. She wanted to get back to his ship and be with him.
Reccoa Londe was introduced in episode 3. All the way through episode
27 (in other words, half of the series), everything seemed fine with
her. We were given no indication that she somehow felt unfulfilled as a
woman. The topic was never brought up.
Then, in episode 28, Fa started talking crap about how "Ms. Reccoa in a
woman, first and foremost". Captain Bright was right in saying that
such distinctions will matter only after the war is over. If Reccoa is
looking for fulfillment as a woman, she's in the wrong place.
Anyway, this issue is completely ignored for the next two episodes
following, and that's where I'm up to now in my rewatch of the series.
Still, I know that Reccoa will eventually abandon the AEUG and her
former comrades.
What I find disturbing (and implausible) is that Reccoa would fight her
former comrades and commit mass murder (especially after telling Emma
that the Titans had done the same thing) just for Paptimus to make her
feel fulfilled as a woman.
I also find it rather sexist on the part of the writers.
Thoughts?
