Well, a while back I watched again another AIC/Pioneer series that I have
on
tape,
"Sol Bianca, The Legacy." A series I happen to really like for some reason
(umm,
good stories for the most part, cool opening creds and music, attractive
women,
that
sort of thing). As it happened, I'd originally watched the first two
episodes
on rented
DVD, and then I bought the three tapes used for less than the cost of one
new
DVD.
Thus I'd not actually watched the first two episodes on the tape. And
didn't
know that
it had trailers for assorted Pioneer stuff at the end. Most were really
just
modified versions
of the series opening creds, which in the case of "Lain" and "Trigun" is
not a
bad thing.
And there was one for "Nazca" which I've never seen save for the little
clips
that are
in the opening for "Malcolm in the Middle."
But there was a formal trailer for one thing; "Tenchi Forever." And it
made
something
of a big deal about it being the end of the Tenchi series.
Many of us weren't terribly thrilled with TF as an ending for the TU
setting.
Some dislike
who Tenchi apparently ends up with (and I have to agree that the other
girl
deserved
him more considering what she does in the film, although not for in the
series). I thought
that while TF perhaps as a free standing film is the best of the Tenchi
movies
it's not
a satisfying end to the TU continuity. Part of the problem, I suppose, is
that
there is just
so much more story in the OVA continuity that one feels shortchanged by
the
realitively
mundane end of TF. There was more story potential in the TU universe than
we
saw.
So what do you spin-off of TU? Umm, other of course than "Pretty Sammy"
which
really
isn't in that continuity.
Galaxy Police: Not GXP, but a series about Kiyone and Miho****. Would they
be
staying
on Earth forever? Why wouldn't they go back after a while to being real GP
officers?
Jurai: About what happens to the Kingdom of Jurai after the High Council
ends
the
monarchy after it becomes clear that no legitimate claimant to the throne
is
ever
coming back from Earth.
Nagi the Bounty Hunter: I liked this character. I would have like to have
seen
more about
her (put down "more of her" but then I remembered "No Need For
Swimsuits");
it's
something of a pity that she'll never somehow appear in the OVA
continuity. A
series
about her could be a "prequal" of sorts and thus feature Ryoko (stuff
about
where the
rivalry comes from) or about her later adventures, or both, really.
Comments and more ideas? And how would you spin-off from the OVA other
than
what we've seen?
