Gender Power Balance in Anime

The posts about whether Naruto is ***ist or not and my recent
watching of Tweeny Witches has gotten me thinking about the balance of
power between the genders in anime. Mainly, anime does not usually
have equality in the distribution in power between the genders. In
anime like Naruto or Dragon Ball or myriad of other anime, male
characters possess much more power than most female characters. In
other anime like El-Hazard or OMG, the females possess most of the
power. The Bugrom are simply no match for the Priestesses and nobody
posseses the power of Ifurita. A variety is a show like Tweeny Witches
where men and women are roughly equal in power but the females are in
the right and the males are at best misguided if not outright evil.

      Is there any anime where male and female characters possess
roughly equal amounts of power? Is there any show where its the males
who are in the right and its the females who are misguided or evil? Is
there any reason why power tends to be schewed towards one gender at
the expense of the other in anime?
