Yukikaze is different because it was based on a pair of novels rather than
on a manga. Manga adaptations often work better because they are based in
visual storytelling from the beginning, whereas novels make the reader use
his/her imagination.
Granted, the adaptation would have worked better if there had been more
ways to show how the Yukikaze AI character was motivated and its loyalty
to
Rei. Instead we get dream sequences and text messages. *shrug*
