Not too long ago, 8-Bit Star started a thread lamenting the decline in
anime songs made specifically for a series. Fortunately, some series
still
make the effort to provide an original, high quality opening theme. IMHO,
the best one this season is "Kouya Ruten" - 荒野流転 is a song by
FictionJunction YUUKA. I've translated the title as "Wasteland
Vicissitudes". It's from a series called Bakumatsu Kikansetsu
Irohanihoheto. (The series title is best left untranslated. I'd
translate
it but it's so complex it would require a couple of paragraphs of
explanation.)

I've provided the Japanese, English translation, and romaji lyrics of the
TV size version of the song - the full version is about three times as
long. I don't copyright my work so, if anyone wants to subtitle the song,
feel free to use them. I copied the Japanese directly from the lyrics
insert that came with the CD and can vouch for its accuracy. The
translation is both accurate and idiomatic - I tried to capture the poetic
quality of the original as much as possible. This is a remarkable song.
