This week marked the apparent departure of two movies from theaters.:
"Happy Feet" had been out on video for quite some time, and has even
shown
up on pay-per-view. Yet it stayed around in a few theaters. Up until
this
week, when it left with a total U.S. boxoffice of $198,000,317. Never
quite
reaching the $200M mark. Nonetheless, "Happy Feet" had one of the most
extraordinary runs of the past year. The movie beat the boxoffice malaise
that
had fallen on most CGI movies. The movie skewered James Bond in regularly
outpacing the boxoffice of "Casino Royale" in the U.S. No one saw either
of
those upsets coming. "Happy Feet"'s upset at the Best Animated Feature
Oscar
also surprised many people.
Oh, yeah. "Arthur and the Invisibles" appears to have left the
boxoffice
with a grand total of $15,132,763 at the U.S. Boxoffice. I have only one
question about this, "Why on Earth did this movie stay in theaters this
long?"
