It's a common misconception that nothing happens in YKK.  I mean, the
vast majority of the human race (including a lot of the main cast) dies
out, for starters.  It's just that you don't get to watch it happening,
and nothing goes BOOM in the process.

The OAVs were rather slower than the manga, though, I think.  Perhaps
because when reading one can determine one's own pace rather than
relying on that provided.  (The anime adaptation of Monster suffered
from this as well - despite being essentially identical to the source
material, 70+ episodes of anime are always going to feel slower than 18
volumes of manga.)
