A few interesting news bits from the world of live action adaptations:
The big one is that Dreamworks has signed up to release a 3D [1] live
action version of Ghost in the Shell. Mr. Spielberg, it appears, is a
fan. No word yet on whether this means Tom Cruise as Batou or Tom Hanks
as the Voice of the Tachikomas, but this might represent an op****tunity
for a certain composers big Hollywood break [2].
Insert fantasy Major casting nominations here.
M. Night Shyamalan is scripting, driecting and producing "Avatar: The
Last Airbender" (the "Avatar" will be dropped so as not to clash with
James Camerons long-developing project of the same name) and has
apparently stated that he wants to make a "live action version of a
Miyazaki film".
I can see dead Totoros...
Finally, Japan is to make a live action Yatterman movie. They've
apparently found an actress prepared to dye her hair blond for the role
of Doronjo, and who presumably doesn't mind being slightly under-dressed
a lot of the time.
[1] Those of you who can remember a certain edited manga scene may well
be wondering if it won't be just the action popping out of the screen,
but the audiences eyeballs as well...
[2] Listen to "Human Step" with your eyes closed and tell me you can't
see "A Jerry Bruckheimer Production" across your eyelids as well...
